Get to Know
For over ten years, internationally renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman has spearheaded a Canadian program that encourages youth to “get to know their wild neighbors.”
Bateman’s flagship initiative is the Get to Know Program - an art, writing, and photography contest that has been wildly successful in inspiring youth to discover nature, express themselves creatively, and learn to care for the environment.
The Get to Know Contest is now launching in California this September. Get to Know is joined by the US Forest Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, the National Wildlife Federation, the Children & Nature Network, and other California-based partners who are all committed to reconnecting youth with nature.
As Robert Bateman has said, “caring for the planet begins with getting to know the names of our neighbours of other species.” We hope that youth who enter this contest will be inspired to continue exploring and conserving nature.
The contest will run from National Public Lands Day (September 26th) to November 30th; additional details are available at www.gettoknow.ca/us/.
