Learn How You Can Help Spruce Up Our Beautiful Lands!

SPONSOR: Toyota

TOYOTA & National Public Lands Day

Toyota volunteers from San Francisco take a break from their hard workday and pose for a group photo

For the 10th consecutive year, TOYOTA is the national NPLD sponsor. Sponsorship of national and regional environmental preservation projects is just one of many areas in which Toyota has proven its environmental stewardship. Toyota operates under a Global Earth Charter that makes caring for the earth a priority. The company created the world's first mass-produced, clean-running gas/electric hybrid car, the Prius, which has received numerous environmental awards, most notably from the Sierra Club and National Wildlife Federation.

Take Pride in America, the renewed national program of volunteer service on public lands, recognized Toyota's contributions to our nation's lands, presenting Toyota the corporate award for 2003.

Toyota demonstrates environmental stewardship on National Public Lands Day when Toyota employees gather at worksites throughout the country to lend a hand to our public lands.

Dockweiler State Beach features a three mile long shoreline with picnic tables, restroom facilities, and a native plant restoration project sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors in conjunction with the SEA Lab, a program of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps. Over the past few years this partnership has been striving to restore native habitat for local species such as the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly. Today, the SEA Lab is focusing its efforts on three sandy "islands" of the beach in an effort to successfully grow native vegetation and increase habitat for potential species. In addition, Dockweiler is often impacted by debris left behind by beachgoers, tourists, and scattered by the coastal breeze. Dockweiler is a prime site for both habitat restoration efforts and a beach cleanup. Project will include native species
plantings, invasive species removal and beach clean-up.
