Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
National Public Lands Day Signature Site 2007

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is a beautiful and quiet oasis on the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. and is a unit of the National Park Service.
Celebrating National Public Lands Day's educational focus on the importance of replacing invasive species with native vegetation, NPS and National Parks and Conservation Association staff, members of the Student Conservation Association and hundreds of community volunteers gathered to remove invasive plants and plant treees, as well as clean up trash using kayaks, clear lily ponds for winter, and improve acces to trails on September 29, 2007. Environmental activities were on hand for little folks ages 4 to 12 that tagged along that day with mom and dad, and many high school students earned community service hours on site.
JL Armstrong of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc., Ben Grumbles from the U.S. EPA Office of Water, and Joe Lawler, Director of the National Park Service Mid Atlantic Region welcomed volunteers in a morning ceremony. The National Environmental Education Foundation presented a Toyota small grant to help the Friends of Kenilworth with future volunteer projects. After morning work projects, volunteers enjoyed a complimentary lunch and raffle with great prizes!
