Hiawatha National Forest--East

Join the Castle Rock Project Completion Celebration

Complete North Country National Scenic Trail and boardwalk construction/restoration, in areas damaged by unauthorized off road vehicles.

Volunteers will celebrate by providing a group lead hike. The goal of the event is to promote hiking along this premiere trail and showcase the health benefits of hiking as a leisure activity for individuals and families.

Ottawa National Forest

Volunteers will learn different techniques for controlling the invasive plant glossy buckthorn. We will hand-pull, cut, and herbicide bushes around the edge of the picnic area at Black River Harbor on Lake Superior. Meet at the harbor parking lot at the end of County Road 513 (Black River Scenic Byway) at 9:00 AM central time on September 25, 2010. Tools and safety equipment will be provided. Bring a water bottle, boots, and a picnic lunch. This event will be canceled in the event of rain.
