Trail maintenance: Come help us to restore trails within Angel Peak picnic areas and campgrounds. We will also be flagging a new trail at Cliffs Picnic area and one at Angel Peak campgrounds. Help place overlook benches at your favorite spot along the new trails. Update Angel Peak overlook by helping us build a new fence along the edge of the parking lot and painting the existing barricade. We will also be putting in a new information station that will display local area geology and other unique characteristics. Spruce up the picnic shelters at all three picnic area! We will be doing weed control and laying new gravel around each shelter. We will also expand some of the access trails of easy handicap access. Mitchell Trail
Join us on National Public Lands Day as we restore the Mitchell trail outside of Los Alamos. After the historic Cerro Grande fire in 2000, many trails in the area were lost due to cover-up by burned deadfall and severe erosion. We will work to incorporate rolling grade dips and other erosion controlling structures during this great workday. Please wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, above-ankle boots, and work gloves. All volunteers are asked to bring a day pack with water, lunch and snacks. We will meet at the Los Alamos Forest Service office across from Starbucks at 9AM and carpool to the Mitchell Trail.
