Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has for the past two seasons been working on a small habitat restoration project. Part of the project is the process of reverting scrub/shrub land back to a field habitat. The goal of this restoration is to increase bird and butterfly habitat while reducing the number of invasive species in the plot. We are looking for volunteers to come and assist the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with a bird and butterfly survey. We are looking for any experienced or amateur birders to help us do a fall inventory of our project. We anticipate starting around 8:30 and going till about 3:00 in the afternoon. Come make a day of it or stop on by for a couple hours. All help is appreciated. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided. Please bring binoculars and field guides if you have them.

Oyster Bay Harbor Cleanup
At the cleanup volunteers patrol Oyster Bay Harbor shoreline to collect debris that accumulated during the summer from illegal dumping or that the tides may have brought ashore. The rubbish will be brought to a central point near the Theodore Roosevelt Park boat launching ramps and hauled away by the Town of Oyster Bay. In the spring we held a similar cleanup and 20 tons of debris were collected. This cleanup is being cosponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay and numerous community groups including, Friends of the Bay, Oyster Bay Power Squadron, Towboat US, North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association, Sagamore Yacht Club, and Oyster Bay Anglers. Meet near the boat launching ramps. Please contact the Town at 516-677-5853 for more information.
