Bureau of Land Management

SHARE:

The Bureau of Land Management is responsible for over 260 million acres of federally owned land, mostly in the western United States and Alaska, as well as the federal subsurface mineral estate.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees public land for the good of the American people, such as producing energy, lifestock grazing, protecting endangered species or offering access to outdoor recreation.  The BLM administers over 40% of the nation's public land.

In 2011, the BLM had 152 sites participate in NPLD, including:

  • Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area - Jupiter, Fla.
  • Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area - Casper, Wyo.
  • Glade Run Recreation Area - Farmington, N.M.
  • Upper Salmon River Cleanup - Challis, Idaho
  • Campbell Creek Science Center - Anchorage, Ala.
