Cities, Towns and Urban Areas

To experience the natural world, you do not have to travel to a distant forest or national park. Most Americans can access nature and take part in recreation activities thanks to their local city and town parks departments. 

City and town parks departments preserve public lands in some of the most populated areas of the country. They ensure that everyone can spend some time in the outdoors and get important exercise and relief from the busyness of city life. During NPLD 2011, 485 sites were hosted by cities and towns.
