Friends of Enchanted Rock

Friends of Enchanted Rock (Friends) is the sole support group for one of the most popular and unique natural resources in Texas, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Friends is dedicated to preserving the natural history of the park and working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife department to improve the visitor experience.

Through the efforts of Friends volunteers, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area has improved the quality of the hiking trails, camp sites, bathrooms, educational programming and the equipment used by the park staff.

Friends of Enchanted Rock was awarded a 2011 Every Day Capacity Building Grant:

Project Summary: Friends currently find themselves at a critical juncture. They have effectively provided recreational and educational programming for the park and have had success recruiting new membership. However, with recent state budget cuts, they believe their role as supporter of the park must evolve to one of fundraiser.

Friends of Enchanted Rock will use grant funds to hire a consultant to update their mission and adjust their organizational structure and procedures to better enable them to accomplish their redefined goals. The end result will be a master strategic plan, supplemented by action and financial plans, to guide the organization through the transition.
