REI

Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) has been an enthusiastic NPLD supporter for many years. Numerous REI stores across the country have provided financial or in-kind support to local events. REI store staff have been and continue to be deeply involved in planning and promoting NPLD volunteer events in dozens of locations. REI is committed to improving the quality of our public lands and instilling a passion for volunteerism and philanthropy in REI employees.
During NPLD 2012, REI provided support at the local and nationwide level:
- REI sponsored the 2012 Volunteers in Action Photo Contest and the 2012 Step into America Video Contest. They provided thousands of dollars in REI gear and apparel as prizes including a bike, tents, sleeping bags, backpacks and water bottles.
- Fifty-nine sites were marketed, organized, funded or supported by REI stores.
The Mid-Atlantic and Atlanta REI Outdoor Schools provided time and resources to the NPLD signature events in 2011. The Atlanta REI school worked with youth from the Greening Youth Foundation to teach camping skills. The Mid-Atlantic Outdoor School attended the Rock Creek Park signature event to teach orienteering and hiking skills to volunteers and attendees of the health and recreation fair.
