Contest Guidelines
Photo Contest Details
- All entries must be accompanied by media release forms or will be considered ineligible. Release forms may be submitted separately and need to be received by November 1, 2009. Media release forms must include the names and signatures of all people whose faces are identifiable in the photo as well as the name and signature of the photographer. Media release forms can be downloaded at http://www.publiclandsday.org/assets/docs/Media_Release_Form_2009.doc.
- All photographs must be taken at a volunteer project officially registered as a National Public Lands Day 2009 event.
- The photo contest is open to all volunteers except for the employees of the following program sponsors and partners-- Toyota Motor Sales, USA., Inc., Northrop Grumman, Patagonia, Girl Scouts of the USA and Boy Scouts of America.
- Prizes will be awarded for the best photos of Volunteers in Action. Photos should reflect, in a visually interesting and creative way, volunteers working on a specific task at the project site. Photos must include people!
- Prizes will be awarded in the following age/affiliation groups: (A.) Photographers 18 years and older; and (B.) Girl Scout, Boy Scout and youth photographers 17 years and under.
- To be considered, we ask that you indicate your age/affiliation group by letter (A or B) with your submission. If submitting photos in group B, note whether you (the photographer) are a Boy Scout, Girl Scout or a youth volunteer.
- There will be nine prizes awarded in the contest. Prizes are generously donated by Patagonia.
- The contest is open to amateur photographers only. Each participant may enter up to three submissions, though only one can be chosen as a winner.
- Submit your photo(s) at http://publiclandsday.org/photocontest/photo_submissions.htm. You may also submit photographs by mail. If you submit photographs by mail, enclose a 3 by 5- inch card containing the following information for each submission: photographer's name, age, address, phone number, email, category of entry (photo or video), group for a photo (A or B), name and location of the NPLD site and a short description (100 words or less) of the work being performed.
- All digital photographs must be at least 300 dpi and 4 inches by 6 inches. Printed photographs for submission must be 4 inches by 6 inches and may be either color or black and white.
- Images may not be composites, multiple exposures, or digitally manipulated beyond the reality that existed when the image was made, except for reasonable dodging and burning.
- Submitted photos will not be returned.
Video Contest Details
- All entries must be accompanied by media release forms or will be considered ineligible. Release forms may be submitted separately and need to be received by November 1, 2009. Media release forms must include the names and signatures of all people whose faces are identifiable in the video as well as the name and signature of the videographer. - The person submitting the video must be at least 14 years of age.
- Prizes will be awarded for videos that show volunteers in action during National Public Lands Day and verbally convey a story about their experience—where they are volunteering, what work they are accomplishing and why they felt motivated to participate in this nation-wide service event. Videos should be edited, from live shots or alternating still photos to be visually appealing and tell a compelling story. Be creative!
- The submitted video entry should be of high quality, no more than 1G in size and approximately three (3) minutes in length. View the list of acceptable formats. One video entry per person may be submitted. Videos must be in English.
- Entries that include content that violates the rights of third parties (including, but not limited to, rights of copyright) or is deemed to be obscene or libelous will be disqualified.
- The video should be taken at a volunteer project officially registered as a National Public Lands Day 2009 event.
- The video contest is open to all volunteers except for the employees of the following program sponsors and partners-- Toyota Motor Sales, USA., Inc., Northrop Grumman, Patagonia, Girl Scouts of the USA and Boy Scouts of America.
- There will be three (3) prizes awarded in the video contest. Prizes are generously being donated by Patagonia.
- The contest is open to amateur videographers only. Each participant may submit only one video to the contest.
- Submit your video at http://publiclandsday.org/photocontest/video_submissions.htm. When uploading your video, be sure to fill out the brief online form containing the following information: videographer's name, age, address, phone number, age, category of entry (photo or video), the name and location of the NPLD 2009 site, and a short description (100 words or less) of the work being performed. You may also send your video on a CD-ROM to the National Environmental Education Foundation at the address below.
All digital entries must be submitted and all mailed entries must be postmarked by November 1, 2009. All mailed entries should be sent to:
